The Feldenkrais method teaches you how to get a maximum freedom of movement through mimimum effort. It makes you aware of your natural posture and the functioning of your body. Feldenkrais is not yoga, but it is certainly a great method to make your yoga practice more smooth and elegant.
Feldenkrais is a movement method in which you observe and organize your body through small, slow movements. The movement sequences are mostly performed on the floor. The classes improve your movement freedoms and bring more flexibility, gentleness and coordination in your daily functioning. The method is unique because it brings you peace of mind and comfort. It can also have tremendous healing potential for small injuries. The method welcomes all kinds of people, from athletes to housewives, from artists to business people, regardless of age and condition.
Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais (1904 – 1984) developed the method in the 1930’s to optimize human movement patterns. As a physician and founder of the first Judo school in Paris he deepened his knowledge in the functioning of the nervous system, with particular focus on movements of people. This interest came through his personal experiences with a severe and long-term knee injury. He taught himself to walk again without pain! After years of research he came to the conclusion that the key to optimizing human body functioning (young or old, flexible or stiff, handicapped or athlete) is to become aware of our movements.
The weekly Feldenkrais class at Yoga Maya Rotterdam takes place on Monday evening from 19.00 – 20.00 (see class schedule)

Knock, And He’ll open the door.

Vanish, And He’ll make you shine like the sun.
Fall, And He’ll raise you to the heavens.
Become nothing, And He’ll turn you into everything.
